DAY 49: LI WENLIANG

Ophthalmologist and Whistleblower, Wuhan, China

 Li was one of the first to raise the alarm that
a new virus was sickening people in the city. Initially treated as a troublemaker and admonished by local officials, he was later praised as a whistleblower. Li died of COVID-19 on February 7, 2020. He was 33 years old.
